THE POWERHOUSE PROJECT
ST MARY’S CHURCH – LANGFORD
|
Q. What is the Powerhouse Project? A. We have a vision of St Mary’s church being a “powerhouse” for God’s mission in the area. The Powerhouse Project is one initiative our church has instigated to help this vision become reality. The objective of this particular project is to improve the facilities at the church. Q. Why is it necessary? Whilst
the church was donated to the people of Langford it is a small, simple
building… ·
without any other space for use during and
after services and for other groups and activities at other times ·
without an office or storage facilities ·
without a permanent kitchen; ·
without an inside toilet; ·
without adequate facilities for the disabled; It
is clearly inadequate for our growing congregation. A congregation growing in
faith – and growing in numbers. Q. So what do we want to do?We
would like to extend the building and in doing so provide:-
|
In
doing all this we will also increase capacity in the existing building for
our growing congregation. |
Q. What will this project achieve? |
|
|
Completion
of this project will not only provide a more welcoming, comfortable and
flexible environment for our congregation, but more importantly it will
enable us to continue developing God’s ministry at St Mary’s. In response to
the challenge we have been given we have developed clear strategies to:- ·
Increase our outreach activities in the
community; ·
Provide a modern worship centre for the
community;. ·
Create a centre for children’s activities at
St. Mary’s. ·
Put St Mary’s at the centre of community life
in Langford and Churchill. Providing
adequate, modern facilities will be a significant aid in all our activities
and benefit our community for years to come.

Q. Why now? |
|
|
St Mary’s is a growing church with an expanding and enthusiastic congregation. Our congregation comprises families with young children whose demands are not easily catered for within our one hundred year old building. Our
ministry is family orientated with a mix of the modern and traditional with
music groups, drama, and video and Powerpoint
presentations all playing a role in our worship. We
work with the children and youth of Langford, Churchill and the surrounding
villages, running groups and activities but are restricted in the facilities
St Mary’s can currently offer. |
|
Q. What we have achieved so far?We
have commissioned an experienced architectural practice that has developed a
design that achieves our objectives whilst preserving the beauty and
simplicity of the original building. We
have budget forecasts and programmes in place. Current expectations are that
the total project cost will be in the region of £300,000 We are now ready for the next phase… |
|
|
Q. How can you help? |
|
|
We
are looking for offers of both practical and financial support. This is a
project that we feel will have a real benefit to our community for
generations, and be a major contribution in making St Mary’s Church a
powerhouse for God’s ministry in Langford, Churchill and the locality. |
