Vicar's Letter

The churches of St John the Baptist and St Mary's are delighted to announce that the next Priest in charge for our parish and Mission Enabler for the LMG is Revd Kate Sax.

I moved into Langford just over two weeks ago and received a truly wonderful welcome with cards, cakes, plants, flowers and a wonderful gardening encylopedia! The garden is truly a delight and will keep me busy in any spare time I have – though I don’t think there will be a great deal of that!
Over the past three weekends and two weeks, I have found my way around much of the delightful setting in which I shall work out my role as Local Mission Enabler and Parish Priest. I have visited a great diversity of beautiful churches and attended an interesting mix of services from Book of Common Prayer Evensong to Evangelical Praise and much in between. For the uninitiated in “churchy matters”, that covers a wide spectrum of very traditional to contemporary and informal family church gatherings. I have met lots of lovely people and been greatly encouraged by their warm welcome and openness.
Much of my work will involve connecting church with local community and helping to explore ways in which Christians can live out their faith in their local contexts. This might mean changing some things, letting go here and there, looking for new opportunities to bring the Good News of Jesus to those who have no knowledge of the Christian faith and above all, seeing where God is leading.
Jesus life was all about relationships, meeting people at their point of need, and often challenging the established “church” of his day! The Christian faith is no easy option but it offers a fulfilled and rewarding life, the centre of which is a relationship with God through Jesus, underpinned by prayer. I am already praying for and with the people of this area and seeking God’s will for His church here, for me, and for all of you. I look forward to meeting many of you in the days ahead.
